I Joined The OMD New Year Challenge!

This post is sponsored on behalf of OMD. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The new year is off to a great start! If you have been following me on social media then you know that I joined the OMD Challenge!

What is OMD?

One Meal a Day for the Planet (OMD) is dedicating one meal a day to the planet and your health. For the New Year OMD Challenge, I am replacing one meal a day with a vegan plant-based meal for 10 days! Did you know that eating 3 plant-based meals a day annually you’ll save 584,001 gallons of water and the carbon equivalent to driving across the U.S. more than three times?

One of my goals for 2019 was to eat healthier and this is helping me reach that goal. As soon as the opportunity was presented to me I knew that it was absolutely perfect for me! Now, I never really was a “bad eater”, I mean I do love food but recently I started to switch out a lot of foods and ingredients to organic and vegan options.

I knew that I also wanted my family to join me on the challenge so I’ve been cooking recipes that are family friendly. My husband was the hardest to convince that plant-based is good for us but he is on board with a healthier eating lifestyle.

How did I prepare for the Challenge?

The number one question I’ve been getting is how did I prepare myself and my family for this challenge?

Commit!

I know it can be hard to start something new but being committed to your goal and plan is the first step. Once I committed I knew there was no turning back. Really think about what is feasible for your lifestyle and also your schedule, and make the commitment. One plant-based meal a day for 10 days fit my schedule and also my lifestyle.

Get Organized

At the beginning of this challenge I got organized and planned out the meals I wanted to make. This made it so much easier for me. I downloaded the OMD meal planner that included a shopping list to also help me stock my pantry for the challenge. I also read the OMD book which also has a ton of resources and recipes.

It has been really fun creating recipes! I’ve found a new found love for food! Here are some of my favorite recipes that I have created so far.

Avocado Strawberry Toast

Vegan Pancakes

Vegan Macaroni and Cheese

Vegan French Toast

All of the meals that I choose to cook were all family friendly. When choosing meals for this challenge I really wanted my family to enjoy the recipes as well. I have a picky toddler so I wanted to make sure she would enjoy the recipes as well. You can check out all of the recipes and some behind the scenes on my OMD IG story highlights.

There is still time for you to join me on the OMD Challenge! Join with me and replace at least one meal a day for the rest of the challenge!

Have you ever tried to go plant based? I would love to hear your thoughts. Happy New Year!

I pinned this one. What a great idea! It’s already a goal of mine to do at least one meatless meal a day. I feel like my family reverts to meat just out of habit, but we’ve been raising our 1-year-old as a vegetarian. I know as he gets older, my husband and I will need to fall in line too.

This is a cool challenge! I have never heard of it and this doesn’t seem as bad and so forceful like other challenges. I was doing a once a week plant-based type of thing but then Christmas came and yeah……lol

We are doing no meat during the week.. we made through the first week. I’m cooking grilled chicken and collard greens tonight. It wasn’t that hard but it’s hard trying to find something that doesn’t have meat my hubby will eat.

This is a fascinating challenge, I’m sending you good vibes. I don’t have that type of discipline to try something like this. My goal is to consume more water and exercise.

I have never heard of this challenge but it looks like something I could possibly try. I did a Daniel fast one year and we couldn’t eat meat or sugar. Glad you were able to get the whole family on board because I know how difficult that could be.

This is such a fantastic idea! I’ve never heard of this type of challenge before but I like it. I really wish I could go 100% plant-based but I think I need to pace myself. This would be the perfect start.

Yes, pacing yourself is important. Lifestyle changes are one day at a time.

Nice! I have not been able to get vegan mac n cheese to look like that. All this food looks so good! I plan to go back to my vegan-ish diet sooner rather than later. I need the energy!
