How I Teach My Daughter Self-care Through Our Hair Care Routine

This post is sponsored by Pantene. As always all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

When it comes to self-care, I am the Queen. Growing up, I really didn’t know what self-care meant. I often saw my mom taking time out for herself painting her nails and engaging in her beauty and hair routine, but I didnt know at the time that she was practicing self-care.

Some days she would bring me into her room and teach me the steps in her haircare routine so that one day I would be able to create my own haircare routine. In the African American culture, haircare routines are somewhat sacred, and many are passed down from generation to generation. I remember my mom used to do my hair in the kitchen and it was our time to connect with one another and have our girl talk. Looking back on it now I cherish those moments.

Now that I have a daughter of my own, teaching her self-care is super important to me. I am grateful that I can teach her the importance of a self-care routine while also passing down our unique “Hairtage” and haircare routine.

I am excited to partner with Pantene to share the Nutrient Blends Collection! The Pantene Nutrient Blends Collection is made of ingredient blends inspired by cultures from all around the world. I love this collection because they are products that embrace every person’s “Hairitage.”

I love challenges and I was recently challenged to spend one hour of my day to focus on practicing self-care. It’s been crazy in my business over the last few months so taking an hour and spending time with myself while also getting some pampering in is just what I needed to recharge.

I have been using the Miracle Moisture Boost with rosewater Collection and I absolutely love the shampoo, conditioner, and hair treatment. Since I’ve loc’d my hair it has been super dry but this line is meant to soothe and hydrate dry hair so it is a win for me. I also love that the collection is free of sulfates, parabens, dyes, and mineral oil. It also has a blend of pro-vitamin B5, antioxidants, and rosewater! The luxurious formula hydrates my dry locs and leaves them super smooth and soft. The ingredients in the Nutrient Blends Collection are inspired by cultures from all around the world. You can try the Miracle Moisture Boost Collection here, also available at Walgreens.

I wanted to share with you a few tips on how I teach my daughter the importance of self-care. Teaching my daughter about the importance of a healthy self-care routine is a great way to bond with her and teach her a healthy habit at the same time.

  1. It’s never too late to set an example. Establishing healthy self-care routines early is key. I didnt learn about self-care until I was a teen, I want to make sure my daughter knows how important self-care is and that she should practice it consistently.
  2. Use routines to bond. I use our hair care routine to bond. We now both have locs. Our haircare routine has definitely been a time for us both to bond and spend time with one another.
  3. Teach by example. When my daughter sees me taking time and care of myself it prompts her to do the same. Our children are always watching and it’s our job to set great examples for them.

I hope these tips help! Make sure to check out the Pantene Nutrient blends at your local Walgreens.
