Tips to Manage Your Time Efficiently

Time is the only resource we can’t get back, so how do you manage it efficiently? You aren’t alone if you are struggling with time management. Many of us have a lot on our plates, and sometimes it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done. Take a deep breath, you will get through this. All it takes is a little time management. Here are a few ways you can start making the most out of every minute of the day.

Tip #1 Stick to Your Schedule

Do you have a daily calendar or planner? Do you know how to create a schedule?  If not, you should think about getting a planner or downloading a digital one for your phone. Scheduling is simple. You are giving yourself a timely to-do list for your day, week, or even month. Planning this out in advance will give you an idea of what you need to get done, and how much time you’ll need to complete it. Now, sticking to a calendar is up to you, but not having a plan is like having a boat without a rudder; you’re going to drift off course. You can purchase an agenda if you’re a pen and paper kind of person, or use the calendar on your smartphone to save the trees! Digital options allow you to set reminders to stay on course. Either way, you will be setting yourself up for success if you plan ahead of time.

Tip # 2 Avoid Distraction

If this isn’t the hardest concept in efficient time management, I don’t know what is. Distractions come in all forms: friends, family, entertainment, etc. Trust me, as a working mom, I get it.  Right when you are in your groove, BAM! The phone rings. Here’s the thing. Life doesn’t stop because you’re on a deadline.  Be sure that you are setting aside time to remain focused on your top priorities. Try muting your phone for an hour, and set a couple of numbers up that will come through in case of an emergency. Schedule time for leisure so these activities will become rewards instead of distractions.

Tip # 3 Take a Break

The idea of taking a break to help manage your time more efficiently, might not add up at first. But it is in fact a great way to keep up your motivation and prevent burnout.  Burnout is the ultimate pathway for distraction to creep in. You’re tired, you’re hungry, so you make some food and turn on the Real Housewives. Next thing you know, you’re three hours deep into a throwback marathon, it’s 2 am, and you’re still not done with the assignment you started this morning. Don’t fall into this trap! Pace yourself. After all, slow and steady wins the race.

Your time is precious, so you’ll want to manage it, to make the most out of it. Creating a schedule, avoiding distractions, and taking breaks throughout the day will put you on the right path to making the most out of your 24 hours each day. Have some more tips?
