The LOC Method For Natural Hair

The LOC Method for Natural Hair

By now you may have heard of the LOC method for natural hair. If you haven’t heard, about the LOC Method, let me tell you right now that this is the ultimate must for moisturizing natural hair.

If you have a hard time absorbing moisture into your hair, then you may want to try out the LOC Method. The LOC method is an abbreviation that stands for leave in conditioner, oil, and cream or styling product. The order is how you should apply each product to your hair. The abbreviation makes it super easy for you to remember how the products should be applied to your hair.

So why should you try this method? The LOC method works well because it layers the products onto your hair to give you the maximum moisture retention. Layering on products helps to seal in the moisture.

Oils and butters are known to create a layer and help seal in moisture. In the LOC method using oil followed by butter or cream, you help to ensure that you are sealing in as much moisture as possible.

How to do the LOC Method

The Loc Method for natural hair

I find that it is super easy to do the LOC method and once I got the hang of it I was good to go! It’s easy because you probably already use the products in the LOC method in your hair regimen and routine.

Step 1 is the L for Leave in

This step is known for the liquid (water) and or leave in that you will begin the LOC method with to moisturize your hair. Water based leave in conditioners are best for this step. My favorite leave in conditioners are EDEN Bodyworks Coconut Shea leave in, CURLS Blueberry Bliss Reparative leave in, and Jane Carter Revitalizing Leave-in.

Step 2 is the O for Oil

The next step is to apply an oil of your choice to lock in the moisture of the leave in conditioner. I like to use a light oil like grapeseed or almond oil because I have low porosity hair. So the oil you choose will depend on your hair’s porosity level.

Step 3 is the C for Cream (Or Styler)

This is the final step in the LOC method. Apply a cream or creamy moisturizer to seal in all the goodness into your hair. Your styling cream will also give your hair definition, so choose the best styler that works for your hair. I love EDENBodyworks Coconut Shea Curl Defining Creme, CURLS Blueberry Bliss Twist-n-Shout Cream and also the new TGIN Curl Bomb Styling Gel.

Why should you use the LOC Method?

If your hair is always dry, then the LOC method will work wonders for your hair. I have seen a significant difference in the moisture levels of my hair since adopting the LOC Method. If you don’t like the way LOC works for you, then switch it up and LCO. Many curly girls prefer the LCO method over the LOC method. I have personally tried both ways, and I prefer the LOC method.

Have you tried the LOC Method?

After a wash my hair is so dry and it takes a couple of days of oiling and moisturizing to get it soft and manageable. Is it okay to do the LOC method daily if needed?

I recently cut all my hair off again and am rocking the cut and wig look. This is my first time hearing of this method but I’ll definitely keep it in mind if I start growing my hair back out because Lord knows my hair needs help retaining moisture.

I’ve heard good things about the loc method! I have locs so I tend to avoid putting creams and butters in my hair. I do moisturize and seal in moisture so I guess I do the lo method lol. Thanks for sharing and your hair is beautiful ♥

I have heard wonderful things about the loc method too! I had locs for about five years before transitioning back into an afro! Moisturizing hair is so important for all seasons of the year!

I don’t know what method I did the other day, but my hair finally feels moisturized. I cleansed the hair, added conditioner, then sealed with argan oil, then put on two different types of leave-ins and twisted my hair. When I unraveled, I used a little oil. I’m not sure what to call it, but it worked, lol.

This is the method I’ve mostly used on my hair, especially since my daily style is a wash n go. I used to use Curls products but I haven’t tried the ones pictured yet. I’ve heard good things about them!
