Are you looking to switch up your hairstyle? Are you looking for a protective style to protect your hair for a few weeks? If your answer is yes, crochet braids may be a good fit for you. Crochet braids are super easy to install and won’t damage your hair. I had the opportunity to test out and install a set of Curlkalon crochet braids. In this post I will give you step by step details on how to install your Curlkalon crochet braids.

1. Begin Your Style With Clean Freshly Washed Hair

You want to make sure your hair is freshly washed prior to your install for longer lasting styles. Make sure to wash and also deep condition your hair, since it will be kept away for a few weeks.

2. Choose The Braid Pattern That Suits Your Style Needs

There are so many crochet braid patterns to search for. Depending on how you want to style your hair you will choose a braid pattern that suits your style. I opted for the 8 braid pattern for my Curlkalon Install. This braid pattern consists of 8 braids with 2 center splits for a u part. You can opt for any braid pattern, this is the one I choose.

3. Install Your Curlkalon Curls

Now that you have braided your hair into the desired braid pattern you can begin installing your Curlkalon Crochet braids. Curlkalon has 4 curl types to choose from: Toni (cute & coily), Carrie (sweet & Sassy) Saniya (fun and flattering), and Kenzie (bold & beautiful). The curls come n 2 lengths, 10 and 20 inches. I choose to go with the Saniya in 2o inches in the color 1B which most resembles my hair color, I used 5 boxes.

Make sure that you add oil to the ends of your hair and to your scalp before installing your Curlkalon curls, so that you maintain moisture while your protective style is placed in.

Items you will need:

  • Crochet Hair- I used Saniya Curl in 20 inches 5 Boxes
  • Latch Hook
  • Thread
  • Hair Sewing needle
  • Patience

You want to make sure you are careful when inserting the latch hook under your braid. Don’t be overly rough and cause breakage to your hair. Below is a step by step pictorial of how to install your Curlkalon crochet braids.

My Thoughts:

I am absolutely in LOVE with my Curlkalon crochet braids. The install of the Curalkalon crochet braids was easy peasy. The hair is very lightweight, and does not irritate my scalp. I am most excited that I didn’t risk burning myself trying to curl Marley hair to do this style. The good thing about Curlkalon is that the hair is already pre-curled and ready to install! I love the size and the length of my curls. The look is similar to my rod set, but it will last longer! I can get a similar look with Curlkaon Saniya curl.

I am very pleased that I don’t have to get up to do my hair in the morning for a few weeks. My advice would be to try to separate as little as possible when installing so you don’t create frizz. Overall I am very pleased with my curls, and I will be installing this style again! Next check out my night time routine for your Curlkalon crochet braids here.

Thank you for this post, I have been juggling back and forth with the decision to get crochet braids. I am growing my hair back from a very short cut and my hair is in somewhat of a weird stage and crochet was suggested to me, but i need to see one of my fellow naturals working it. I have never had fake hair and was nervous as to what this will feel like. Will it be too heavy, will my scalp itch, and will it be hard to keep up. This post has really helped give me a better understanding of what to expect.
