Why I Started Blogging

Start a blog

I just realized today that I started this blog in 2012, 4 years ago! It has been a journey and an amazing experience. I realized that I have never shared why I started this blog. I decided to go natural in 2009 after literally not wanting to pay $90 to get my hair relaxed. I actually had no idea that you could go natural. I thought that once your hair was relaxed that was it. Silly me!

I went to a stylist and she informed me that I could just grow the relaxer out of my hair. I looked at her with a silly look. Like, seriously I can just grow this stuff out of my head! OK, let’s do it! I began to want to learn more about natural hair, So I spent many late nights researching online and stumbled upon CurlyNikki. At this time I had no idea what a blog was, so I was intrigued to learn more about her site.

During this time in my life I was finding myself, I was a young 20 something young woman who didn’t know who she was at all. I was working a job I didn’t like, I had just got out of a really toxic long-term relationship, and I had nothing going on in my life that I was proud of really. I then began grad school and I had met someone new and was moving on with my life. Everyone in my life seemed to have something they enjoyed doing. My now husband who I was dating was into basketball, my friends had their own things going on but me I was lost. I had nothing that interested me, no hobbies, nothing that I really loved doing. I would just go out to the club every weekend and party.

I began trying new hairstyles and wearing them to work. Everyone would ask me, “Girl how did you get your hair like that!” and tell me “Your hair is cute”. I began to give advice on natural hair and what my regimen was. One day something clicked and I was like, I’m going to start a blog. I then felt that this was what I was supposed to be doing! I loved talking about natural hair and helping other women! I had admired bloggers like CurlyNikki, TarenGuy, and Napatural85 and I loved their blogs.

I’ll admit, I had no idea what I was doing when I started this blog. I started my blog on blogger, which I then transitioned later to WordPress. I came up with the name of Happily Ever Natural because I was happy being natural and I was never looking back! The name means so much more than just natural hair, It’s just simply a place for women to come to be happy about anything in their lives. My main goal was to inspire women to be confident, courageous, and unique!

I had no idea that when I started this blog that I would be given opportunities I could only dream of. I never knew that you could even make money blogging, because that’s not what I got into blogging for that part just happened. I really poured my passion into helping other women with their natural hair and it just turned into so much more!

I was amazed that anyone even read my blog or tuned into my YouTube videos. It still amazes me that people do!! Its been an amazing 4 years. So much has happened in the past few months, and I will talk about all that when I am ready, and feel the time is right. I am just so glad I started this blog because it really changed my life in so many ways. I love writing, I love helping other women, and I love learning new things about blogging everyday. My heart is full! Thank you for rocking out with me all these years. There is much more to come on Happily Ever Natural so stay tuned!!

XOXO Michelle
